Why This Resource Exists
A current property question may begin with the Town GIS or assessor, while a recorded-deed question belongs with the Albany County Clerk. The Board of Elections, courts, Town Clerk, Albany Public Library, Sanford Town Library, Hall of Records, and state archives each keep a different slice of the local trail. The aim is to connect Town of Colonie readers with those primary sources and their access rules rather than to represent a record as more complete than it is.
What the Directory Organizes
- Search paths by question: the street directory for address-based records, the city directory for historical collections, and the resident lookup for a single-name workflow.
- Custodian routes: the Assessor, County Clerk, elections office, court clerk, vital-records office, library, and Hall of Records.
- Research methods: parcel-to-deed work, directory and census pairing, and verification through independent records.
- Access boundaries: New York FOIL, vital-record rules, voter restrictions, sealed records, and address confidentiality protections.
What We Cannot Provide
This is a privately operated reference, not a Town of Colonie office, Albany County department, New York agency, court, library, or records custodian. We cannot confirm a person’s current address, retrieve or certify a record, correct a government database, add or remove a listing, or give legal advice. The office holding the record controls its availability and correction process.
Only the source custodian can authenticate, certify, or amend a record. This reference is not a consumer reporting agency and may not be used for FCRA-regulated decisions.
